The Biedermeier period is a fascinating epoch; it stretches roughly from the Congress of Vienna in 1814/15 to the revolutionary year of 1848 and outlines a time in which Europe was characterised by political upheaval and social upheaval, resulting in profound social change.
This exhibition focuses not only on Vienna as the residential capital of the Habsburg monarchy, but also on the splendid cities of the crown lands such as Budapest, Prague, Ljubljana, Venice and Milan and their respective surrounding areas. The focus is therefore not only on the Viennese masters such as Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller or Friedrich von Amerling, but also on Miklós Barabás and József Borsos from Budapest, Antonín Machek and František Tkadlík from Prague or Francesco Hayez and Giuseppe Tominz from Lombardy.
