For more than four decades, Elmar Trenkwalder has been captivating viewers with a body of work developed from drawing and characterised by a fascinating ambiguity of content and visuality. In their fantastic, exuberant richness of detail, his monumental works are reminiscent of magnificent Baroque and Rococo architecture, but also of Asian richness of form. The development of a construction method that was more architectural than ceramic gave rise to an increasing number of opulent, expansive sculptures that are only statically limited by the virtuoso mastery of the material.
