To what extent is the space part of the work process? How long does intimacy remain public? What is the discrepancy between virtual spaces and their physical representations? Can an intimate space be political? Which space is precarious, which is exclusive? When does the bedroom belong to an individual, when is it public? What physicality do visitors perceive in the room?
Amanda Burzic deals with the question of physicality in the context of the exhibition space. The result is a room-filling installation of an abandoned bedroom. A place that was once inhabited but has now been left unoccupied. For this work, the artist appropriates objects from her childhood and manipulates them until they dissolve between memory, imitation and kitsch.
