Painting Sculpture combines the works of Franz West and Sophie Barber and emphasises the intersection of painting and sculpture. West’s retrospective at Tate Modern in 2019 inspired Barber to create a series of small-scale works. The exhibition juxtaposes West’s famous pastels with Barber’s sculptural paintings, emphasising the tactile qualities in the work of both. Barber’s new works will be shown for the first time in this exhibition – alongside Franz West’s well-known passé pieces and other sculptures. This exhibition is being shown in co-operation with the Alison Jacques Gallery, the David Zwirner Gallery and the Franz West Private Foundation. The Cultural Forum is presenting works by Franz West for the first time in London. The juxtaposition of his works with those of the young British artist Sophie Barber emphasises the importance of works by Austrian artists for a younger generation as part of a generational exchange.
