nextcomic – Austria’s unique comic festival – invites you on a journey of discovery through drawn worlds in 2025. Fans of the graphic arts can discover comics, graphic novels, children’s and art comics as well as related genres such as illustration, cartoons and animated films. The nextcomic-Festival 2025, this year under the motto What makes YOU strong?…developing resilience with comics, deals with coping with crises, promotes resilience and encourages. In exhibitions, events and encounters, the question is posed as to how personal crises arise and are overcome. In life, we are constantly confronted with small or large challenges. A problem that has been solved can bring new difficulties. Moreover, we live in a world in which crises, conflicts and wars are frighteningly present. In their drawn stories, comic artists raise questions or offer possibilities for personal processing. Comics encourage a willingness to engage with contemporary issues. Since its inception, the festival has positioned itself at the interface of satirical drawing, film, photography, literature and music. The concept of comics is expanded, making influences and cross-connections visible. The broad spectrum of comics is brought together in the context of contemporary art and presented to the public in a variety of ways. In the festival centre, the Ursulinenhof in the OÖ Kulturquartier, national and international comic positions are spread over three floors. Exhibition venues in Linz and Upper Austria are also part of the festival programme and offer events and nightlines alongside the exhibitions. On the opening evening in the Ursulinenhof, a guided tour of the exhibitions will take place after the opening. Artists will be present to talk about their contributions and sign books at the Pictopia book table. The Suuuper Saturday invites you to visit with lectures, drawing, presentation and sales tables. The festival will be rounded off with the Online Comic Symposium, in which national and international comic luminaries will take part.
