In YOU, WHO CAN FLY – ŠEJLA KAMERIĆ, various groups of works from recent decades by the artist, who was born in Sarajevo in 1976 in the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, are staged with current installations developed for the presentation in Linz. The multi-layered network offers an insight into the artist’s artistic self-image and her political and social intentions and hopes. The exhibited self-stagings for photographic images, the self-portraits, which have been repeatedly conceived for over 20 years, run like a common thread through the thematic focal points of the work. The representations of women and the female body, as they are coded and propagated in the visual and social media, find an equivalent in the artist’s self-portraits and at the same time a provocative, self-determined de- and re-coding.
