Nature is diverse – in all its facets, whether water, roots or thorns, in surfaces and structures. Four contemporary positions unite the examination of natural structures in the group exhibition at Künstlerhaus Bregenz. The focus is not only on artistic creation, but also on artistic research. For example, the water surface plays an important role in Aurel Dahlgrün’s photographs from two perspectives – on the one hand, diving under water and, on the other, looking at the water. The theme of water is also represented in various works by Kiel-based artist Lena Kaapke. In her work ‘Water to drink’, she presents 194 jugs and 194 drinking vessels, each representing a nation state of the world. Water level lines are marked in colour, symbolising the percentage of inhabitants who have access to drinking water in each country. Many of Veronika Suschnig’s works are created in series. The Vienna-based artist creates screen prints, paintings and installations. These contain fragmented forms that often overlap and thus reveal special structures. Not only fragments of form, but also fragments of text, appear in her artistic work. Veera Komulainen deals with the theme of origin and belonging in her works. She usually draws on motifs from nature, such as roots.
