A colourful, lively network has developed from a fixed idea to convey the joy of contemporary art to as many people as possible – the Initiative Kunstverleih. Contemporary art does not only belong in galleries and exhibition centres, it can and should also inspire in private settings. But you have to be able to afford art, they say. And for most of us, this means that it remains out of reach. This is precisely the gap that the art rental initiative aims to close. Founded in 2014 by Andreas Heller, Isa Riedl and zweintopf, the Initiative Kunstverleih creates a network between Styrian artists and people interested in art. It allows works to circulate that would otherwise disappear somewhere in the artists’ collections, packed away dust-free, and provides private flats with contemporary art. The Initiative Kunstverleih offers works by over 30 Styrian artists to borrow for private spaces – in an uncomplicated and affordable way. For a loan fee of 35 euros, you can take a work of art home with you and spend a year with contemporary art. The exhibition in the Forum Stadtpark, curated by Nastia Khlestova, presents all the works available for loan.
