BimBam gives a special focus to the diversity of theatre for the youngest. It is the only festival of its kind for children between the ages of 1 and 6 in Austria and a fixture for families, educational institutions and specialist audiences. ‘BimBam focusses on art for children and opens doors for discoveries, encounters and shared experiences. The ‘play of forms’ – the festival theme – shows the diversity of theatre: an opportunity to experience art directly,’ says Katharina Schrott, artistic director of the festival. From the sound of music to the human body and the diversity of materials – the anniversary edition plays with the wealth of forms of theatre. Paper becomes a piece of clothing or a painting surface, in the interplay of light and shadow we travel through the world of colours and in the darkness we enter the magical space between dream and reality. The anniversary edition will open with new music. This unusual programme item will be conceived and designed especially for the festival by NAMES, and for the first time the ensemble will perform a concert for everyone aged 3 and over. Five pieces will be presented under the title ‘Klingende Dinge’, including two world premieres that were composed especially for the festival.
