Susanne Kriemann, artist and professor of artistic photography at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, explores geological ages and questions the politics of visibility in her radically expanded concept of photography: What could it mean to understand the world as a large recording system, as a photograph? The Camera Austria exhibition space in the Eisernes Haus forms the setting for Hey Monte Schlacko, dear Slagorg (since 2024): In the contaminated and exploited landscape of a dormant ore mining site, mosses and lichens interact with other plants, regenerating the soil, alongside rock; the scenography echoes the exhaustion, resistance and trauma of these anthropocentric geographies. This most recent work is in dialogue with Kriemann’s long-standing research-based approach, which focuses on the vegetation of landscapes left behind by uranium mining.
