In drawings, animated films and installations, Susi Jirkuff explores how skilful combinations of literary texts, fictional spatial images and urban structures can create new levels of meaning. Jirkuff is particularly interested in the poetic traces, visions and fictions that people leave behind as stories in space. As part of the Tricky Women/Tricky Realities Film Festival 2025, Susi Jirkuff is presenting her animation Wo ich wohne (2022) (Where I live), which is based on a short story by Ilse Aichinger. The examination of Aichinger’s work led to a reflection on the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, in particular on the house as a psycho-poetic place. Through her work on Wo ich wohne, Susi Jirkuff also came across forgotten milestones in her own development: there was reading and thus the rediscovery of female authors who contributed significantly to her artistic emancipation.
