In 2025, the international animated film festival Tricky Women – Tricky Realities will continue to showcase animated film art in Vienna and online worldwide. Film programmes, lectures, parties and exhibitions at the METRO Kinokulturhaus and other festival venues in Vienna celebrate the joy of experimentation and resilience of animated film by women and/or genderqueer artists. A large part of the film programme is also available online on the festival’s own platform. Animated short films and virtual reality works in the competition and special programmes invite viewers to approach a complex world with creativity, a fresh narrative perspective and an expanded visual vocabulary. The Personale is dedicated to Gina Kamentsky. The US-American artist is known for her multi-layered, surreal and humorous direct-on-film animations. To mark the 30th anniversary of the UN World Conference on Women, Tricky Women – Tricky Realities is focusing on making alliances visible in a special programme this year. The programme highlights collaborative and solidarity networks as well as artistic, intimate and political complicity from a wide variety of perspectives.
