The interventions of Graz-born Werner Reiterer are both unexpected and irritating, as well as humorously ironic. When historical wooden sculptures of saints or angels hanging from the ceiling suddenly show the artist’s likeness, when the entire exhibition space – triggered by a scream – begins to ‘breathe’ in a strained manner, visitors’ perceptions and expectations are immediately challenged: they are transformed from passive spectators into an essential part of the exhibition. Drawing plays a special role in Werner Reiterer’s oeuvre. An essential part of the exhibition The Mind Hacker will therefore be a room-within-a-room as a special, installative setting in which around 80 of the artist’s drawings will be presented. The extensive series of Drawn Exhibitions forms the conceptual basis for all of the artist’s projects, both realised and unrealised, and thus provides an insight into the development of the artist’s work, which now spans several decades.
