The work of internationally recognised artist and photographer Arvida Byström has been shown in art exhibitions worldwide. Born in Sweden, she has worked for numerous renowned fashion brands and magazines and has worked both in front of and behind the camera. In her work, Arvida Byström explores the social, aesthetic and commercial impact of internet phenomena and technological developments. In the exhibition Who’s Your Daddy?, curated by Maria Venzl, she explores anthropomorphic AI beings and sheds light on their ‘parentlessness’ – in particular the lack of a mother figure. Digital and electronic figures with a female appearance are juxtaposed with mythological characters such as Venus, Aphrodite and Eve, thus questioning traditional role models and their origins. Another theme that Arvida Byström explores in the exhibition is the question of why we create copies of ourselves and at the same time have a deep-rooted fear of these artificial replicas.
