Wax in his hands. Daniel Neuberger’s Art of Deception focuses on a medium of art that is little recognised today – that of wax. At the centre of the exhibition at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna is the now largely forgotten artist Daniel Neuberger (1621-1680), a master of sculptural moulding with wax and imitating a wide variety of materials and surfaces. The works of art, often only a few centimetres in size, were sought-after throughout Europe and even today they still impress with their eye-deceiving illusionism.
