Drawing on the philosophical work of Anne Dufourmantelle, the exhibition curated by Laura Birschitzky & Julia Harrauer explores the ambivalent nature of risk – its ability to simultaneously evoke courage and caution, and its crucial role in shaping human behaviour and thought. It also asks what becomes of a society that can only see risk-taking as a heroic act or pure madness. The question is raised as to what it means to ‘take a risk’ and to what extent it is necessary to break away from entrenched norms and be open to new experiences. The works of the individual artists – Bianca Ion, Nikola Milojcevic and Zula Tuvshinbat – reflect this interplay and offer insights into our complex relationship with risk.
