In the opening exhibition of the new year, Mödling-born artist Helga Cmelka is showing examples of her series of works ‘On the Fading of Colours’, in which she deals with climate change, but also with transience, time and the fragility of being. Javier Pérez Gil, the Spanish-born artist, presents labyrinthine images whose structures are reminiscent of the Aztec code or the layout of Renaissance gardens. The partly large-format graphite drawings of the ‘GEA’ cycle by Viennese artist Henriette Leinfellner are animated with codes and signs that evoke cartographic-structural as well as sensual-emotional references. Finally, the object artist Robert Svoboda, who was born in Vienna and now lives in Lower Austria and Burgenland, presents bunker-like sculptures in which he thematises brutalism in architecture, buildings abandoned to decay, but also ‘greenwashing’.
