Clemens Wittkowski has been active as a video artist, director of advertising films, DJ and producer in the house and techno genre for 30 years now. A video cycle he has produced over the last few years is now being shown for the first time in its entirety in the solo exhibition ‘Fragile Conditions’. Wittkowski takes us to a very sensitive place: to the self of all of us. The works – lasting between one and seven minutes – are characterised by the fact that they have a contemplative effect on the one hand, but also touch our respective emotional world ambivalently on several levels on the other. Video and sound form a strong unity and yet always challenge each other insistently. The canon of themes ranges from devoted love and deep disappointment to unwavering action and hopeful moments to relentless trials – and the realisation that nothing can last for long.
