With her project ‘The Resistance Quilt’, Ren Aldrige attempts to build bridges between art, activism and research. Collaboration and community form the heart of the project: a monument to the end of femicide. In public and curated spaces, she and others will spend a year searching for ideas and practices to confront social structures of gender-specific violence and make them tangible, visible and audible in material, visual and auditory form. As a manifestation of collective agency, a large-format quilt made of textile elements will be woven together during this year. This will be accompanied by a sound quilt created in collaboration with Reni Hofmüller from audio recordings of protests against the social conditions of femicide. The exhibition, curated by Sara T. Huber, is the final point of the project, making resistance visible and audible and a challenge to social conditions that are based on the isolation and subjugation of women and queer people under destructive living conditions.
