In the 1950s, Hasso Gehrmann’s abstract ‘drawing panels’ were exhibited at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris, the Kunsthalle Mannheim and the Società Dante Alighieri in Rome, among others. His ‘First fully automatic kitchen in the world’, developed for the household appliance manufacturer Elektra Bregenz in the 1960s, came to Germany after sensational presentations at international furniture fairs, it ended up in the German Museum in Munich. Many of his other inventions, as well as his philosophical concept of ‘meta-art’, remained the preserve of a narrow circle of connoisseurs. To mark the 100th birthday of Hasso Gehrmann (*1924 Weißenfels/D, ᵻ 2008 Bregenz/A), the vorarlberg museum is showing a comprehensive overview of his multidisciplinary work for the first time.
