Every three years, ‘Heimspiel’ brings together art from seven countries and cantons at five exhibition venues. ‘Heimspiel’ offers a platform for artists from Vorarlberg and the Principality of Liechtenstein as well as the cantons of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Glarus, St. Gallen and Thurgau. The transnational exhibition format showcases the diversity of visual arts in the region and connects artists and institutions. The exhibition was created under unusual conditions for the Kunstraum Dornbirn: the conceptual basis for ‘Heimspiel’ and all exhibitions curated as part of it is a geographical component. The artists were able to apply for participation in the exhibition on the basis of given references to the designated countries and Swiss cantons. Fitz, Palla, Saupper and Schenker deal in various ways with places and spaces in different contexts, such as the individual and socially relevant use and definition of these.
From the studio as a place of production to the institutional exhibition venue and the question of how space can be physically filled, shaped and restructured by works of art. It is about the concretely localisable as well as the fictional momentum of place and space, about the existing or newly constructed relationship between nature and man and always about the search for a concrete form of the elusive or unspeakable.
