14.12.2024 – 16.02.2025

The last exhibition of the year is traditionally reserved for members of the Kunstverein and is curated this year by Hana Ostan-Ožbolt-Haas; the theme is Debts. ‘Debt’ is a broad topic that can be viewed from various angles, including its emotional, social, historical and economic dimensions. Especially in the context of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has divided the art world like no other topic in recent months, many people are confronted with feelings of guilt and obligation. The economic aspect of debt – financial debt – is something that many working in the precarious conditions of the art world face on a daily basis, living from one fee and commission to the next, just below zero. With wages falling and retirement largely postponed until later, access to credit and personal share portfolios has been suggested as a tool, a form of ‘investment’ in the self that can be used to compensate for changing social and economic conditions. Artists: Gleb Amankulov, Benjamin Hirte, David L. Johnson, Tammy Langhinrichs, Artur Schernthaner-Lourdesamy, Miriam Stoney, Magdalena Stückler, Frank Wasser.
