Agriculture, which has fulfilled or regulated our basic needs since the Neolithic Age, and art, which reflects society and confronts it with new possibilities, become exciting fields of reference in these considerations. The project OPEN FIELDS – Art and Agriculture emphasises these basic human needs for physical and spiritual nourishment. At the same time, it deals with historical, political and social contexts, new impulses and current approaches. The meeting of two apparent opposites creates space for something new. With the ‘’OPEN FIELDS‘’ project, the Institute for Art in Public Space combines art and agriculture. It is made up of 12 individual projects by artists and collectives from many parts of the world on just as many farms in Styria. In this exhibition curated by Elisabeth Fiedler at the Neue Galerie Graz, all twelve individual projects of the OPEN FIELDS project by the Institute for Art in Public Space will be presented together in one place. With works by Gina van der Ploeg, Sam Collins & Shō Murayama, Eva Seiler, Katharina Klement, Markus Hiesleitner, Sujit Mallik, Paul Wiersbinski, Stéphane Verlet Bottéro & Astarti Athanasiadou, Jonathan Omer Mizrahi, Georg Nussbaumer, Rainer Nöbauer-Kammerer, Benjamin Reynolds.
