What role does the Holy Scripture of Islam, the Koran, play in the history of European ideas? How has it been read and understood in Europe since the first translations in the Middle Ages? The special exhibition ‘The European Koran’ is dedicated to these questions. It illustrates the many ways in which the Koran has been experienced, read and interpreted in Europe. With original historical artefacts, contemporary works of art and media installations, the exhibition shows the significance of the Koran in the lives of people in Europe. The idea of the exhibition is to stimulate reflection on the many ways in which the Koran can be explored in today’s European society.
