As part of the annual theme ‘THROUGH HER LENS – All Eyes on Women Photographers’, the Leica Gallery presents exclusively female photographers. The exhibition ‘Art of Stillness: Portraits and Still Lifes by Vera Mercer’ will conclude the year with a visual splendour full of flowers, fruit and mystical arrangements. Mercer’s work is characterised by opulent, neo-baroque colour still lifes that reinterpret classic vanitas motifs. Her works are rich in colour and detail, often bathed in mystical light and artfully arranged. She combines crabs, fish carcasses, game and poultry with flowers, candles and antique accessories to create a visual feast that celebrates the joy of life and transience in equal measure. The large-format works captivate with their sensuality and aesthetics and create a unique atmosphere that transports the viewer into a world full of beauty and contemplation.
