Heinz Poeschko’s works were created in primeval forest-like landscapes, which are largely removed from human influence, as well as – in contrast – in forests used for forestry. In them, Poeschko uses digital and analogue photography to position himself against the idealised and romanticised view of nature that is common in the media. Poeschko develops processes to allow the aspects of a landscape that are not visible on the surface to flow into the image-making and production. In the sense of ‘structural photography’, the production of the images – such as manipulations in the analogue process, montage or tableau-like presentation – reflects the structures of forest management and the forest ecosystem. Influenced by architecture, Heinz Poeschko constructs new pictorial realities from found reality, in the perception of which the tension between representation and fiction cannot be resolved.
