The horizon is subject to permanent change and constant transformation; nevertheless, it is the reference line for our orientation. In the graphics, objects, photos and videos in the exhibition CHANGING HORIZONs, Gerlinde Thuma brings together the experiences ‘along the horizon’ from two collaborations from an artistic and scientific perspective. The connecting element is the question of how facts and knowledge are reconstructed and constituted. Based on her experiences during the archaeological excavation on Monte Iato, Thuma has visualized processes of uncovering, finds and findings: ‘event horizons’. In today’s knowledge society, however, we are in danger of slipping into a ‘post-factual age’, which is based on one-sided interests and in which information is alienated and thus orientation is manipulated. The installation with the copies of the book ‘Why want to know?’ levels out towards the horizon; the subsequent process in nature is documented: ‘Knowledge_goes_nature’.
