As part of a cooperation between the Verein zur Förderung der soziokulturellen Vielfalt – Xenos and the Institut für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Steiermark, nine artists and collectives are creating temporary interventions on the topic of democracies in danger at just as many locations in public space in Graz. In the art project, which takes place in the shadow of landmark elections worldwide and opens on the day of the US presidential election, artists and artist collectives from several continents will take a visible stance on the issue. Their interpretations of current and past political conflicts are visible in the form of banners, murals, installations, etc. – deliberately from 5 November to Human Rights Day – in public spaces in Graz at neuralgic and discursive locations whose stories are linked to the emergence of democracy, the struggle for it and its defeat in times of autocracy and dictatorship.
