Visitors can marvel at a wide range of curiosities in the pop-up exhibition: from Ernő Rubik’s sketchbook and the various prototype phases of numerous toys to the first production models and archive photos. In total, the exhibition comprises almost 90 extraordinary objects. The one-week pop-up exhibition presents objects and documents from Ernő Rubik’s unique private collection and personal archive – around 95% of which have never been shown anywhere in the world. The title Rubik’s Curiosity Cabinets refers to Ernő Rubik’s own universe and how he, as a creative person, organises the world around him through the design of 3D puzzles, i.e. how he thinks. It gives an insight into the history of the cube’s creation and its triumph in the 1980s and tells us about the other successful 3D puzzles by Ernő Rubik, Rubik’s Snake and Twist as well as Rubik’s Magic, which have sold millions of copies and are still in circulation today. Sketches and prototypes as well as games that were either sold in small numbers by the Rubik’s studio or never made it to product maturity allow visitors to share in the inventor’s workshop secrets. The exhibition, curated by Rita Mária Halasi, provides an insight into an incredibly rich, productive and exciting oeuvre.
