The exhibition Free Play of Forces is a direct continuation of the collection show Playing means changing! and is dedicated to exploring the theme of ‘play’ in greater depth. In the free play of forces, boundaries can be overcome, the familiar questioned and the distance between artwork and viewer reduced. At the same time, play is a special form of experiencing the world. It is a metaphor for social coexistence and a motor for cultural change. We discover our individual characteristics and abilities through joyful play, while we learn how rules and systems work and what it means to break and thwart them through playful co-operation and opposition. With works by Ernst Caramelle, Peter Friedl, Dan Graham, Hans Haacke, Angelika Loderer, Stephen Mathewson, David Moises, Wendelien van Oldenborgh, Şener Özmen, Andrew Phelps, Nicole Schatt, Christa Sommerer & Laurent Mignonneau from the collections.
