Housing is a basic need. Changes to the living situation due to external or age-related circumstances often become a challenge. Apart from the usual measures such as barrier-free conversions, stair lifts or emergency buttons and the retirement or nursing home, which is often perceived as the last stop, there is little idea of the design options for living in the autumn of life. Examples of alternative forms of living that set an example are currently rare. Architectural standards are often neglected in this context. A lack of information, an inflexible care system with staffing problems and rigid subsidy structures for construction projects that go beyond the norm also hinder a social rethink. Necessary reforms in politics and administration are a long time coming. The exhibition ‘How’s it going, old people? – Creating spaces for the future together’ is dedicated to the topic of ageing in the context of living and housing.
