Druhá města / Other Cities – a cooperation within the framework of steirischer herbst ʼ24 – is a unique, transnational and multi-layered long-term project. It includes an artistic city exchange between Brno and Graz as well as a co-operation between the Káznice Studios and the Schaumbad involving the curatorial and artistic teams of both institutions. The focus is on researching the ‘second city’. Both Brno and Graz are often overshadowed by their respective capitals, but also enjoy a greater degree of autonomy. The term ‘second city’ here refers to the uncovering of unnoticed or invisible aspects of the urban environment. The project focuses on the production of art in hidden layers of life, on the narratives behind the everyday scenes, on the urban wilderness and wastelands, and on the alternative realities and values that these ‘second cities’ cultivate.
