The collections of the Naturkundemuseum are home to outstanding scientific and cultural-historical artefacts. Since the Joanneum was founded in 1811, these collections have been continuously expanded – through acquisitions, expeditions, donations and purchases. There are now over 1.2 million objects in the natural history depots. This special exhibition presents selected collection highlights and tells interesting stories about these objects. Whether objects unique to the nature of Styria, plants personally collected by Archduke Johann, minerals described by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, measuring instruments used by Friederich Mohs or glass models of octopuses made by Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka – this exhibition covers a wide range of objects and related topics.
