The visualised Klangwolke transforms the Danube Park between the Lentos and the Brucknerhaus into an open-air stage. At the centre of Linzer Klangwolke 24 are eight pioneers and their visions, their research, their expertise, their thirst for discovery and their courage. Just like the pioneers, who were often ridiculed in the beginning for their ideas, their urge to explore and their questioning of the status quo, today it is the visionaries who open up new paths and teach us again and again how important it is not to rule out the seemingly impossible. The audience embarks on a fantastic journey of discovery, from the depths of the ocean to distant galaxies, in which life is breathed into oversized figures by the Catalan artist group La Fura dels Baus. Gustav Holst’s world-famous orchestral suite The Planets, paired with a sound design by La Fura specially developed for Klangwolke 24 in Linz, provides the musical basis for this year’s production. Holst’s The Planets is one of the very few compositions to be influenced by astrology. Why to the depths of the oceans? Let’s get involved in the mystery of where the inexplicable sounds of ‘the loneliest whale in the world’ or, in other words, the frequency of 52 Hz, which is present as an ocean echo in many studies, come from.
