The programme of the International Bruckner Festival Linz 2024 is dedicated to the great composer Anton Bruckner, whose 200th birthday is being celebrated this year. Under the motto ‘Infinite expanses. Bruckner’s work as a reach for the stars’, the festival will present a unique and unrivalled series of concerts. A special highlight will be 4 September 2024, the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner’s birth. This will be celebrated, how could it be otherwise, in his birthplace, Ansfelden. Every year, the International Bruckner Festival Linz kicks off here, including in the big anniversary year: none other than Linz-born star conductor Franz Welser-Möst and his US orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, will do the honours and pay a very special birthday tribute to the composer with an open-air performance in the open space between the parish church and vicarage. The programme includes Bruckner’s 4th Symphony, the Romantic, preceded by the Prelude and Liebestod from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. For the first time in the world, all eleven of Bruckner’s symphonies will also be performed in their original sound as part of the International Bruckner Festival Linz 2024, a journey of discovery in eleven concerts that can only be heard as a cycle at the Brucknerhaus Linz and exclusively in Austria. The symphonies will always be performed in their first version and thus in the form that Bruckner originally intended for each work, still unimpressed by the reactions of his contemporaries. The specially conceived, programmed and prominently cast concert cycle guarantees a unique listening experience, a true original sound festival that only the Bruckner city of Linz has to offer in the Bruckner Year 2024 and will be performed by eleven of the most renowned original sound orchestras in Europe under the direction of eleven renowned conductors.
