Turning points – for views and attitudes. With their works, the artists in this exhibition – Gbolahan Ayoola, Gerald Chukwuma, Oluwole Omofemi and Damilola Moses Opedun – tell of the pursuit of personal freedom, of dignity, of resistance to constraints and of self-assertion. A farewell to suffering and the willingness to take life into one’s own hands. They self-confidently reject claims to dominance of any kind, especially colonial, post-colonial and neo-imperialist ideologies, along with their repressive categories of ‘race’ and their attitudes of subjugation. With their art, the artists demand equal rights for all people, men and women, marginalised minorities, the socially disadvantaged and underprivileged. And in doing so, they invite an open dialogue free of domination.
