The HochSommer Festival is a cross-border, contemporary art festival in south-eastern Austria and the neighbouring Slovenian region. Exhibitions, performances and concerts take place at 13 locations in south-east Styria, southern Burgenland and Gornja Radgona in Slovenia. Free spaces are created for artistic interventions and echo spaces for socially relevant topics.
A new feature this year is the open studio day on 9 August – numerous artists offer insights into their work, including Anita Fuchs, Karl Karner and Christian Rusizka.
Projects in south-east Styria:
In Feldbach’s Kugelmühle, the stage set of Wagner’s Walküre from Bayreuth, designed by Hermann Nitsch, is accompanied by appropriate music.
In the Kunsthalle Feldbach, the artist duo zweintopf will be showing current works that were created in connection with their new living space, a small farm.
In the KS Room, initiated by Karl Karner, there will be a juxtaposition of the two sculptors Julie Hayward and Sophia Gatzkan.
The GerberHaus in Fehring hosts the first institutional solo exhibition of the painter Sarah Bogner in Austria.
In Studenzen, Alfred Lenz organises musical/performative events and brings the farm from his mother’s childhood back to life.
The Kunstfenster Gnas remains true to its theme for the year and shows recycled ceramics.
A new addition is the Spiegelgitterhaus in Gleisdorf with the exhibition Wendezeit/Zeitenwende.
In Bad Radkersburg, the Pavelhaus and the customs houses in Gornja Radgona will once again host the group exhibition Touch Nature on the anthropocentric impact on nature.
