Providing a stage for book reading – StadtLesen sees this as its primary task. Visitors indulge their love of reading in the mobile reading living room, select a copy from more than 3,000 books in the book towers, settle down on cosy seating and read, listen, immerse themselves, linger – indulge their imagination. In their role as bibliophile highlights, authors set the mood for four days of reading enjoyment – in the open air with free admission. StadtLesen is unspectacularly spectacular, unobtrusively penetrating. Visitors have time to read, to fantasise. The project encourages healthy boredom and awakens the often lost imagination. Visitors live in their own mental world: ‘Reading is a world in your head’ is the motto of initiator Sebastian Mettler.
