The solo exhibition Confessing Weakness at the Landesgalerie Kunst im Traklhaus brings together key works by the artist in which he goes beyond simple attributions of identity and roles to carefully examine the socio-cultural mechanisms and historical and political events that stand for non-conformist sexuality and gender. Through his many years of work with self-organised archives, such as the Forum Queeres Archiv München (FQAM), Philipp Gufler uncovers unknown narratives and perspectives.
In the film, the artist Philipp Gufler accompanies the historian Albert Knoll to the central locations of his archival and mediating work. Based on Knoll’s work for the Forum Queeres Archiv München (FQAM) and the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, the film sheds light on the persecution of queer people under National Socialism and modern archival work. The film addresses the emotional significance of private archives, as well as the preservation and processing of long-neglected histories.
