La Strada, the international festival for street art, puppet theatre, new circus and community art, has been an integral part of Graz’s cultural scene for more than two decades. Close to the people, it explores the city with a variety of artists, turns perspectives upside down, discovers hidden places and turns urban living spaces into a big stage. This form of art raises everyday issues such as transport, energy, consumption, globalisation and migration. Subsequently, the coexistence of people and the effects of the individual aspects are analysed. The festival opening will take place in the Landhaushof this year. On 26 July from 19:30, the Collectif Sous Le Manteau will embark on a scenographic experiment with their programme “MIKADO, small tales of falling” in a stage set of unstable, oversized Mikado sticks, in which collapse is accepted as an integral part of the game. In this moving production, six acrobats explore the relationship between “us and the living environment”, investigate collapse as a universal physical phenomenon and play with the idea of tearing down the old in order to build something new. This year, under the direction of Werner Schrempf, 145 performances are once again on the programme; 113 of them in Graz, 26 in Stainz, Weiz, Leibnitz, St. Stefan ob Stainz, Kalsdorf, Gratkorn, Deutschfeistritz, Stainach-Pürgg, Ramsau am Dachstein, as well as 6 as part of Signal vom Dachstein at various locations in the region around the Dachstein.
