This year, the Bregenzer Festspiele open with a premiere: for the first time in the Festival’s history, Carl Maria von Weber’s opera “Der Freischütz” will be performed on the lake stage. It will be conducted by the Italian Enrique Mazzola. The audience can also look forward to two world premieres.
Another premiere is Gioachino Rossini’s youthful work “Tancredi” at the Festspielhaus. This opera by the 20-year-old Rossini about love, trust and the impossibility of finding happiness in times of crisis will be staged by Jan Philipp Gloger. Yi-Chen Lin will be the musical director.
The two world premieres of “Impossible Connection” by Czech composer Ondřej Adámek and “Hold Your Breath” by Irish composer Éna Brennan will once again turn the Werkstattbühne in Bregenz into a venue for contemporary music theatre. “Impossible Connection” focuses on the failure of interpersonal communication. The performative work was conceived and composed especially for the Ensemble Modern. In “Hold Your Breath”, people find themselves confronted with a mysterious creature whose movements seize and change everyone.
There will be a special musical encounter in the Opera Studio: Brigitte Fassbaender will perform works by Rossini and Puccini with the young singers of the Bregenz Opera Studio.
