The MAK exhibition AUT NOW. 100 × Austrian Design for the 21st Century provides a varied overview of the diversity and innovative power of Austrian product design in the new millennium on the basis of 100 design objects. Four objects in each of 25 thematic categories – from A for “Alpine” to Z for “Circular” – reflect the range of things that have been designed and produced in Austria from the year 2000 to the present day. These are particularly remarkable Austrian product designs – role models for the 21st century. AUT NOW invites visitors to take a functional, conceptual and poetic look at the qualities of contemporary design and discover surprising things in familiar objects.
The exhibition display developed by Vandasye uses a transparent architectural sculpture to provide a 360-degree view of the functional, typological and material richness of the 100 designs for the 21st century on show. Correspondingly, detailed descriptions and visualizations on the walls of the MAK Contemporary room allow a thematic immersion into the 25 categories of AUT NOW.
