He was one of the prominent representatives of lyrical expressionism in Styria: Adolf Osterider (1924-2019). In addition to the depiction of landscapes, he was particularly dedicated to the theme of commedia dell’arte and its characters in cycles. Osterider was also an important teacher.
After studying with Hans Adametz and Rudolf Szyszkowitz at the Ortweinschule in Graz and with Sergius Pauser at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he himself taught at the Ortweinschule from 1956 and led the masterclass for painting there from 1965, with interruptions, until 1986.
The exhibition curated by Peter Peer at the Neue Galerie Graz with selected works takes place on the occasion of the presentation of a book written by friends, acquaintances and companions about the man and artist on his 100th birthday.
