The exhibition Unexpected Turns, curated by Antonio Rosa de Pauli, not only provides a comprehensive insight into the painterly oeuvre of this extraordinary artist, but also into her extremely meticulous working method, in which set pieces from works by Baroque artists such as Frans Snyders or Anne Vallayer Coster form the starting point and are subsequently analysed by the artist using colour concepts and oil sketches. The results are large-format oil paintings in which she depicts still lifes and figures in a powerful gesture and equally carefree lightness.
The exhibition spans an arc from earlier series of works by the artist, who works between Vienna and Beijing, in which she used her “wet-on-wet” technique, which is characterized above all by a quick and spontaneous application of paint, to her most recent works, in which she first applies the background colour, allows it to dry and only then paints the picture.
