The comprehensive exhibition curated by Çiğdem Özel, entitled “The Colours of the Serenissima – Venetian Masterpieces from Titian to Canaletto”, tells the brilliant success story of Renaissance painting in Venice.
It is about the use of precious colours, a new, loose style of painting, but also about the astonishing continuity of typical motifs. The works of Venetian masters were echoed centuries later in European painting and collecting culture. The history of the former imperial collections is the best proof of this. These qualities are epitomised by outstanding works by Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Canaletto. In combination with individual examples of other art genres, a multifaceted picture of Venetian art production emerges that is only possible in a special exhibition outside the traditional collection structures of the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
“The Colours of the Serenissima” is the first exhibition under the direction of the new director of the DomQuartier, Dr Andrea Stockhammer.
