27.04.2024 – 01.09.2024
The exhibition, curated by Hemma Schmutz and Markus Proschek, uses contemporary artistic positions to explore the fate of artworks and artefacts between looting, abduction, restitution and reconstruction. The spectrum of artistic positions on display ranges from the examination of colonial looting and sometimes questionable collecting activities, state-planned art theft and expropriation, to cultural genocide through the theft and destruction of cultural artefacts. The exhibition deliberately focuses on the immaterial value of objects, the memories and histories that have been inscribed in them. With Said Baalbaki, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, CATPC / Renzo Martens, Ines Doujak, Assaf Hinden, Moussa Kone, Oliver Laric, Markus Proschek, Michael Rakowitz, Anja Ronacher, Dierk Schmidt, Philip Topolovac and others.
