The artistic cosmos of Maria Ullmann (1905-1995) is futuristic, colourful, fashionable and idiosyncratic as well as profound in its aesthetic and thematic dimensions. “My” – as she signed herself – is considered one of the main representatives of Kinetism, one of the most interesting and at the same time least illuminated art movements of the early 20th century in Vienna.
The exhibition traces My Ullmann’s artistic path in six chapters. The exhibition includes loans from major Austrian museums and private collections, as well as previously unseen works from her extensive estate. Photographs and documents illustrate the creative power and temperament of this exceptional artist, who remained unconventional throughout her life.
30 years after her death, the oeuvre of this versatile artist, who stood out throughout her life for her self-confident wilfulness and unconventional lifestyle, is being honoured at a late date.
