An important cornerstone of social housing in Vienna is formed by around 220,000 municipal and around 200,000 subsidised flats. Around 50 per cent of Vienna’s population lives in one of these two forms of housing. Social housing stands for a fairer society by including the middle and lower income classes.
The Austrian Cultural Forum in Ljubljana is organising a series of events on the topic of social housing together with Wiener Wohnen/City of Vienna, the Museum for Recent History in Celje and the Municipality of Celje. Affordable and healthy housing is an important topic in Slovenia and social housing in Vienna continues to be an international model.
The series of events will open with the exhibition “The Viennese Model of Social Housing”. A panel discussion with Slovenian and Austrian experts will take place during the exhibition. The films “The stuff dreams are made of”, which presents six different alternative housing projects from Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Styria, and “27 storeys – Alterlaa Forever” will also be shown. The programme concludes with a workshop for young people on the topic of housing entitled “How do you want to live?”
