On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the composer Anton Bruckner, this year’s nextcomic is focussing on the experience of space and sound in comics.
The majority of the exhibitions will deal with the aspect of sound and spatial experiences in comics. The comic skilfully exploits its literary relationship with written language to depict sound and noises. Through the use of sound words, also known as onomatopoeia, comics can imitate written language and thus offer a unique visual experience. Although sound words can also be used in written literature, they are a typical visual feature of comics and allow the reader to experience sounds and noises in a visually appealing way.
