Manfred Willmann’s work centres on the photographer’s engagement with the world, whereby documentary and conceptual approaches are of equal interest to him in order to repeatedly pose whether and how photography is capable of confronting our world. His thematic series are often created over a longer period of time, and the form of the artist’s book suits him particularly well: Schwarz und Gold (1981); Die Sieger (1989); Das Land. 1981–1993 (2000); Blitz und Enzianblau (2017).
